Hello and welcome to our first blog.  We would be delighted if you would follow us as we embark on our new journey to raise awareness of dementia and all that it can entail.  I hope you have had a chance to look around our new website, and liked what you saw.  Did you notice the little blue box with the white man inside, that is at the top left hand-side of each page?  This is an accessibility tool.  If you click on it you can change the the font size of the text and various other enhancements to give you the best reading experience of the website possible.  Go on, give it a go, click on the different options and see how it changes the look of the page.

So, you may be asking yourself what makes this website different from any of the other dementia websites?  Our aim is not to provide advice per se.  There are plenty of organisations who are the experts in their field to do that.  Our aim is to bring together the advice, news and events from industry professionals to create an interesting and informative website that looks into the multi-faceted world that surrounds dementia.  A ‘One Stop Shop’, so to speak.

The website is divided into 3 main sections. Dementia Advice, Calendar and Blogs.  Dementia Advice is where you will find lots of information and useful links to websites that will encourage you to explore not just the subject of dementia but everything else that surrounds having a diagnosis and what it can mean for the person, their family, friends and community.

The calendar is where both regular activities and one off events will be listed.  These will be local West Sussex, non funded activities and events, those that are run buy local volunteers and organisations being dementia inclusive.

Regular funded activities can be found at Alzheimer’s Society

Our blog page will bring you fortnightly short quick read stories from West Sussex dementia professionals, and people with lived experience.  These could be news of an upcoming event, a new service, a recent experience or just very useful information.

If you would like to write a blog or enter an event or activity on our calendar please use our get in touch page or email us at westsussexdementiacommunitynews@alzheimers.org.uk

We look forward to the website growing and developing over the coming weeks and months and to sharing what we learn with you.  You can also keep up to date with us when we are out and about at events by following us on Facebook – Dementia Community News West Sussex.
